Whether you’re interested in guitar for personal fulfillment or you’re pursuing it as a career, this course is for you! By learning the guitar as an instrument with no boundaries you'll learn to focus on how sounds are created, instead of being limited to one style. The beginning class focuses on basic reading, fingerings, chording, strumming, picking, and theory with fingerstyle technique for a more thorough exploration of the instrument's capabilities. Regular out-of-class practice is expected for the student to progress. Please bring guitar and textbook to the first class. Textbook is not included. Limited to 10. A continuation of Basic Guitar, this course adds a new dimension to basic concepts of technique and musicality. More left hand fingering, chording, and right hand techniques will be introduced while the sight reading studies become more advanced. Regular out-of-class practice is expected. Rock Guitar Basics
Evening at Emory - Fine Arts
This beginning class is similar to Basic Guitar but focuses on rock/folk technique, which uses a pick to pluck and strum instead of the fingers. The course will focus on the basics of technique in picking and strumming, music theory, and notation, and chords in both standard notation and tablature. Class is open to aspiring guitarist of all levels. Regular out-of-class practice is expected for students to progress. Please bring guitar, pick(s), and textbook to first class. An acoustic guitar is recommended for this class but electric guitars are welcome (students will need to provide their own, small amplification). Textbook is not included. Limited to 10.
