Richard "Doc" Roberts
Certified Technical Trainer
Biography
“Doc” is a self-taught computer person. He taught himself programming on the Radio Shack TRS-80 way back in 1978. With a BS in Psychology from the University of Georgia, he'd have given just about anything to attend computer classes, but this was years before the IBM-PC arrived. In 1986 he was contracted by the US Office of Personnel Management to develop and deliver a variety of computer courses for military and other DOD agencies. He was the lead trainer for the US Army's RedTrain (readiness training) program for the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg. As adjunct faculty with the USDA's The Graduate School he taught databases, spreadsheets and programming courses on PC and Unix-based systems. He has developed database solutions and trained for such diverse clients as AmericasMart™, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, The Home Depot, NWS, DOT, COE, and also won a national award for his development of a computer-based training course in the Interactive Video Category of the Gold Screen Competition (Nat'l Assoc. of Government Communicators). Doc is also a musician and audio/video engineer with three national chart records to his credit, including the hits "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Pac Man Fever." An avid surfer and steel-guitar player, he adds the spirit of Aloha to his classes garnered from his many trips to Hawaii. His style of teaching is to "teach the way I WISH I had been taught."
